China Open-Source LLM ARR Estimated at $10B-$15B

A China Open-Source LLM Tracker published by Robonomics author FD on September 1 estimates that Chinese open-source large language models generate total annual recurring revenue of roughly $10 billion to $15 billion. Excluding ByteDance and Seedance, core LLM revenue is estimated at $6 billion to $8 billion. The tracker says growth has not depended on a price war: DeepSeek saw usage rise after raising prices by roughly 3 to 12 times, while Zhipu’s average API price increased 101% as token usage grew more than 40 times within the year. Overseas revenue is estimated at about $2 billion. Zhipu’s MaaS ARR rose from about $250 million in March to $1.6 billion on a monthly annualized basis in August and $2 billion on a weekly annualized basis. MiniMax, Kimi and DeepSeek also posted sharp ARR increases, while ByteDance’s annualized AI revenue was estimated at $4 billion, including about $2 billion from Seedance.

About 70% of Microsoft AI revenue comes from OpenAI as customer base stays concentrated in tech

Microsoft’s biggest AI customers are still largely technology companies, according to Bloomberg, with OpenAI contributing about 70% of the company’s AI revenue in its most recent fiscal year, or $24.1 billion. The report also identified other major Azure AI customers, including ByteDance, Meta, Adobe, Perplexity, Sierra, Ant Group, Meituan, and Tencent. As of June this year, ByteDance was estimated to be spending more than $1 billion annually on Microsoft’s cloud platform, while Meta’s annual spending was said to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Microsoft had previously disclosed that its AI model marketplace had around 100,000 customers, but revenue remains concentrated among a small group of large technology and AI companies. Bloomberg said that pattern may suggest AI has yet to achieve large-scale commercial adoption across the broader economy.
